3rd NATIONAL BRAZILIAN GAUCHO FESTIVAL

The 3rd National Brazilian Gaúcho Festival will take place here in Los Angeles, the seat of the General Bento Gonçalves Gaúcho Cultural Center. The event will be on September 1 and 2, 2007, at the Glendale Civic Auditorium (address: 1401 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale, CA 91208). The city of Glendale is located in Los Angeles County.

For this event there is already an unofficial schedule (subject to change).

Saturday, September 1

10:30 A.M. Opening of the 3rd National Brazilian Gaúcho Festival, with the lighting of the Chama Crioula. This will be followed by a civic ceremony with the presence of Brazilian and U.S. authorities, as well as Gaúchos, Prendas and the general public.
12 noon – 2 P.M. Lunch.
2 – 6 P.M. Presentation of dances, poetry, chulas and others.
9 P.M. – 1 A.M. Chimarrão Ball.

Sunday, September 2

10:30 A.M. Missa Crioula (Portuguese-language Mass).
12 noon – 2 P.M. Lunch.
2 – 3 P.M. Meeting of the Directorship of the North American Confederation of Brazilian Gaúcho Traditionalism. In addition to other duties, the site of the 4th National Brazilian Gaúcho Festival will be chosen.
3 – 6 P.M. Presentation of dances, poetry, chulas and others.
7 P.M. Domingueira (dance) begins.
11 P.M. Domingueira ends. Close of the 3rd National Brazilian Gaúcho Festival.

In the hall there will be an exhibition of materials used by Brazilian Gaúchos, as well as photos of Gaúchos and of Rio Grande do Sul.
In whatever country of the world in which the Brazilian Gaúcho Traditionalist Movement exists, it promotes not just the culture and traditions of Rio Grande do Sul, but also family principles.

During the two days of the event, there will be free hot water and yerba maté for chimarrão. Just bring the cuia, bomba and Thermos, since chimarrão is an important link between Gaúchos and people who love Gaúcho culture and traditions.

We recommend that all Gaúchos and Prendas prepare their pilchas since the date of the festival is drawing near.

Alcoholic beverages will be prohibited on the two days of the event. We are going to show that dances and parties can be held without alcohol. There will be free admission during the day, with paid admission for the two dances at night. Tickets for the two dances will be sold starting in June 2007.

Due to the high cost of renting the hall, the band that will perform at the two dances, the publicity material and the permits required for the 3rd National Brazilian Gaúcho Festival, the Gaúcho Cultural Center is seeking individuals and businesses that wish to contribute towards the expenses of this important event. Individuals and businesses that give $100.00 or more may, if they wish, have their names places on this site and remain on it for more than a year. Whoever contributes after the event has taken place will receive by mail a souvenir of the 3rd National Brazilian Gaúcho Festival.

Checks should be made out to Centro Cultural Gaúcho General Bento Gonçalves or CCGG Bento Gonçalves.

More information about this event will be provided later.
